Did you know Philadelphia is home to the nation’s largest single-location food drive?
In 2021, 53 million people turned to food banks and community programs for help putting food on the table, according to Feeding America. “WMMR’s Preston and Steve Camp Out for Hunger” benefits local hunger relief organizations through Philabundance. I attended my first Camp Out in 2019 and witnessed the wonder that radio listeners can’t possibly grasp – from rides and games to giveaways and celebrity appearances. There’s something special about getting together with fellow fans of the show and seeing a live broadcast with all the laughter, voices, and hi-jinx, all for a good cause.
This year SEOM got involved. Over the course of three weeks, we collected enough food to overflow my trunk.
On November 16th, the Preston and Steve Show announced their totals from the week-long event – 1,410 tons of food and over $1 million in monetary donations. We’re so proud to have been a part of the effort to drive hunger from our local communities.
Just because the Campout for Hunger is over doesn’t mean the work is done. Check out Philabundance’s website to get more information on how you can help.
