Optimizing Websites for the User

We talk a lot about optimizing your website for the search engines – that’s what we do, that’s what drives business – but optimizing for search engines comes second only to one thing – the user experience.

If a user can’t navigate your site, it won’t matter how well your site ranks in the search engine results pages. The fact of the matter is: your site won’t convert.

Open up your website and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are calls to action clear and strategically-placed?
  • Is copy readable and in a layout with either short paragraphs and/or bullets?
  • Is there a good balance of graphics and copy?
  • Is the phone number easy to find and clickable for mobile devices?

If you answered “yes” to these questions, there’s a good chance your website is user-friendly.  If not, your first priority should be to optimize the layout of your website for the user experience.

Remember, you must first optimize your site for the user, then the search engines.

Sure, we can drive traffic to your site, but it’s a wasted effort if the site doesn’t convert.
